Here’s Why You Need To Plan A Trip To Iceland This Year

There are so many different places you could travel to this year. Have you already got a couple of trips in the pipeline? If not, it is definitely time to start organising one! In this blog post, I want to highlight one very special country: Iceland! This gorgeous Nordic country is full of charm and culture. Not sure about heading to the land of ice and fire? Hopefully, all of these reasons will persuade you to do so!

Ethereal Landscapes

Iceland’s landscapes are truly otherworldly; you certainly won’t have seen anything like them before! If you take the drive from Keflavik Airport to Reykjavik, you will get a great taste of the country’s beauty. But to experience it in full, you should take a drive along the Golden Circle, or tackle the Ring Road that takes you around the whole of the island. If you don’t have the time to drive it in its entirety, you can simply spend a couple of days travelling along a section.

Geothermal Springs

Do you love nothing more than relaxing when you’re on holiday? Well, Iceland provides you with plenty of chances to do just that! And that is all thanks to the geothermal springs that are dotted around the island. One of the most obvious is the famous Blue Lagoon. While some may say that it is a cliche tourist trap, everyone has to visit it at least once! There is nothing more relaxing than sitting in the hot springs under the sky and applying a natural mud mask! If you feel like it, you can unwind even further with a massage and a glass of bubbly!

The Northern Lights

If you have ever wondered where is the best place to watch the Northern Lights, then this little tip is just for you! Iceland is one of the best spots on earth to witness this awesome natural phenomenon. The best time to see the lights is in winter, when they are often out in the sky throughout the night. Don’t worry about missing them while you are sleeping, though, as many hotels will wake you up when the show starts!

Delicious Food

Scandinavian food is enjoying some time in the culinary spotlight right now! A few decades ago, it was heavily associated with pickled herring and meatballs. These are still traditional foods, but things have greatly improved, especially in Iceland! While there, you will be able to enjoy some super fresh seafood that has been locally caught. And as Nordic cuisine has become a lot more serious over the past few years, you will find that a lot of restaurants are serving traditional dishes with a cool, modern twist. It’s the perfect destination for foodies who are looking for fresh and contemporary dishes.

Hopefully, I have persuaded you to consider a trip to fantastic Iceland this year! You certainly won’t regret your time there. Just remember to take plenty of photos to impress your friends and persuade them to head there as well!
